Focusing on one data point

So the winter weather just keeps on coming and North America's snow cover has been at record levels. Does this mean that all the hype about global warming was wrong?
Of course not. But the global warming advocates who pointed at strong hurricanes and record-setting droughts as evidence of their theory were also wrong.
And that's the problem with politicizing science. Climate is a science of averages and averages over many years. Elections are motivated by two or four year cycles.
I will be inclined to vote for the first candidate who says: "Let the scientists study the problem of climate change and formulate some solutions. Then, and only then, will we set policy." Which isn't to say study the problem until we get the answer we want.
In the meantime, keep shoveling your driveway. But don't look to one year's weather as support for anyone's pet policy.
