Got the Mackinac Attack!

This past weekend, I headed north on I-75 for about six hours and literally ran into the Mackinac (pronounced Mackinaw) Bridge, connecting the Lower and Upper Peninsula of Michigan. It expands for five miles, one of the longest bridges in the world. Then I actually spent a weekend on the island. How incredible!
If you have the chance to do this, I highly recommend it. You have to take a ferry over to the island. And once you're reached your destination, get ready to walk or ride your bike. No cars are allowed on the island! You can ride a horse too.
One of the biggest features, beside the fudge shops, is the Grand Hotel. And it it absolutely that! Grand. It was built in the late 1800's and has one of the longest porches in the world. An interesting fact...the porch is level from end to end, but the building itself "drops" a flood and a half. Go figure!@!
If you can go during the "off season," it's highly recommended to do so to save money. And one more thing, if you have the chance to eat a pasty, go for it as well. This is sort of a meat pie that native Michiganders simply love.
