You probably haven't heard of the campaign to raise awareness of environmental problems by turning out the lights for one hour on Saturday night. There hasn't been much publicity.
Some folks feel the Earth Hour campaign is just symbolic. After all, each of us generates 20 tons of greenhouse gasses each year. Turning out the lights between 8:00P and 9:00P is just a drop in the bucket.
But if each of us doesn't take what small steps we can -- by walking instead of driving, by exchanging flourescent bulbs for incandescent, and by turning out the lights when we don't need them -- nothing changes. And something must.
