Some food pantries are reporting unprecedented numbers of requests for help and they can't keep food on their shelves. The Cleveland Food Bank had a record month in October, distributing 2.6 million pounds of food.
That's 24 percent more than last year. The Ohio Association of Second Harvest Foodbanks says the number of households served by state foodbanks has risen 18 percent in the last two years.

The chairman of the House Transportation Committee criticized federal investigators Sunday after a published report said they have determined an original design flaw is the most likely reason for the collapse of the Interstate 35W bridge in Minneapolis. The bridge collapsed during the evening rush hour on Aug. 1, 2007, killing 13 people, injuring 145 and leading to a closer examination of bridge safety in Minnesota and throughout the country.

An Ohio historian faces trial on Aug. 3 on charges that he headed a dive team to remove an 8-ton boulder known as Indian Head Rock from the depths of the Ohio River. Steven R. Shaffer, 51, of Ironton, Ohio, is charged with removing a protected archaeological object. No trial date has been set for a co-defendant, David G. Vetter, 54, of Portsmouth, Ohio. Kentucky lawmakers called for the boulder to be returned to the commonwealth, while Ohio vowed to keep it.

Because of millions of dollars lost in pop can scams, Michigan is looking at ways to stop the illegal returns. Stores also could limit customers to $5 a day in bottle refunds or $25 per day if the retailer has return machines. Fines and jail time would increase. Despite the problems, Michigan's recycling rate for cans and bottles is a successful 97 percent and the road commission saves about $10 million in road cleanup.

Habitat for Humanity volunteers were putting the final touches on a storage shed that's going to be in the backyard of the last habitat house of the season. The Village of Holland spent over $700,000 to turn their old fire station into a brand new police station. The new building is 6,000 square feet. It has state of the art technology. The station has a weight training room, classrooms, new evidence rooms and holding cells. It also has an area where officers can drive their cars straight in and unload prisoners securely.

The Indiana Department of Correction has ordered most paroled sex offenders to attend Halloween evening meetings to keep them away from trick-or-treating children. In some areas of the state with large parole district, parolees will be required to stay inside and place signs outside telling trick-or-treaters to stay away.

Family and friends in Oregon gathered today to remember Autin Takas. The 11-year-old was killed Wednesday when police say he was chasing down his school bus. The bus driver was not cited. School Officials say it was a tragic accident.
