Life Tastes Better Here: Doughbox Bakery, at Sauder Village

The Doughbox Bakery knows how to roll their dough especially when it comes to their tasty treats. The Archbold shop opened up 40 years ago as part of Sauder Village. Like their ancestors, the shop sticks to the traditional way of baking by making everything from scratch.

Each pastry has its own department so skilled works can focus on their area of expertise. From the doughnut rollers, to the cookie makers and the pie bakers, each kitchen division spends long hours to fulfill customers wants and needs. Their current kitchen oven started turning out pizza dough over 50 years ago, but it still rises to the occasion today with delicious baked goods.

The Doughbox pies are a desired item in the area with the bakery turning out over 19,000 pies every year. They are available in more than 40 varieties and can be bought fresh, and some even frozen, to enjoy at any time during the year. For pie makers that don’t want to hassle with their own dough the store sells both unbaked pricked and un-pricked pie crusts.

The bakery is open Monday through Saturday from 7 a.m. until 5 p.m. with a drive through window available at 6:30 in the morning.

In honor of National Pie Day, on January 23rd the Doughbox Bakery will offer a $1.00 off all pies with frees samples available.
