Life's Better Here: North Pole Express (WNWO)

Take a faraway expedition to Santa’s headquarters without ever leaving NW Ohio. The North Pole Express has been bringing the spirit of Christmas through Findlay for 14 years.

The NW Ohio Railroad Preservation started the seasonal event in 2002 and has continued to expand with each passing year. Rides on the quarter-scale steam locomotive have gotten so popular that they were able to add a second quarter-scale diesel train in 2014.

The half mile ride is completed with two trips around the 15-inch gauge track allowing guest to take in cutout Christmas displays and an array of lights all while listening to holiday music.

The purchase of a ticket will entertain guests with more than just a ride. They can learn about the evolution of trains by walking down the hallway of history and exploring the model train room. Merchandise is also available in the North Pole Express gift shop.

The experience continues over at the engine house with a “Winter Wonderland.” Nearly 70 trees light up the inside of the building alongside holiday displays. Visitors can warm-up and grab a bite to eat at their concession stands that serve hot chocolate, popcorn, hot-dogs and sandwiches.

And of course, a visit with Santa Clause and Mrs. Clause is not to be missed as they always make an appearance during the days leading up to Christmas Eve.
