General Motors announced today that it will invest $163.2 million in its operations in Flint and Bay City, MI plants and its Defiance, OH plant.
This investment to support engine production for the Chevrolet Volt and Chevrolet Cruze will protect 184 jobs " including 41 jobs at the Defiance Powertrain plant. The Defiance plant will receive $12.2 million in new equipment.
The improvements at the plants will be used to support increased production of the Ecotech 1.4 liter engine used in the Cruze and the similar engine used in the Volt.
Defiance Powertrain will increase its output of engine block and crankshaft castings. G.M.'s Bay City facility will increase its production of connecting rod and camshaft production and its Flint facility will ramp up engine production.
The Chevrolet Cruze is assembled at G.M.'s Lordstown, OH plant, near Youngstown.
