While most of northwest Ohio will spend their holiday watching fireworks, the best show in Springfield Township might just be at Crissey Road.
The train derailment on Thursday at the Crissey Road crossing caused more than a dozen train cars along with gallons of vegetable oil into the roadway. It was enough to bring out an entire neighborhood of spectators, including Bill Watkins.
Watkins owns a business down the street from the crossing. He said after 16 years in the area, he thought he'd seen everything.
â??This is one of the things I hadn't seen, and now I can add it to my list," Watkins said.
The official cause of the derailment is still under investigation.
Norfolk Southern officials said the crossing should be closed for about the next week, while crews work to clean up the mess and lay down new track.
