180th Fighter Wing holds dedication ceremony for Northwest Ohio 9/11 Memorial

The Ohio National Air Guard's 180th Fighter Wing honored lives lost during the 9/11 attacks on Monday by dedicating a new memorial.

This memorial uses colored glass embedded in three markers represent the World Trade Center, the Pentagon and the field in Shanksville, Pa. It also includes a clock that denotes the time of each event on that day.

"Amazing that they came up with that concept to put a star of a different color, some for the first responders, some for the military, some for the civilians," said Col. Tom Schart, a commander during 9/11. "Just that the team that kind of came up with all these ideas, I think it's just outstanding what they did."

Steel from the World Trade Center, limestone from the Pentagon and soil from the Pennsylvania field are all featured in the memorial.
