2 charged in west Toledo robberies

      Juan Alvarez

One arrest has been made and another man is still wanted Thursday in a recent string of armed robberies in west Toledo.

Juan Alvarez, 26, of Lorain, was arrested Wednesday in connection to the hold-ups at several area convenience and specialty stores.

Richard Kostenbauder, 34, of Lorain has been charged as well. He was taken into custody early Thursday morning.

Kostenbauder is also from Lorain. The two had been staying in Toledo in the 5600 block of Bennett, according to police.

The series of robberies began Monday, May 16 at the "In and Out" on Lewis Avenue. Investigators say just 2 days later, the men held up the same store for a second time. And that same day, the pair, armed with semi-automatic handguns, hit Ryan's Quickshop on Telegraph Road.

This past Saturday, police say they robbed The Shed on Lewis Avenue.

Alvarez appeared in Toledo Municipal Court Thursday morning and was charged with two counts of aggravated robbery with a deadly weapon. Judge McConnell set his bail at $75,000 and he remains incarcerated in the Lucas County Jail.
