$2.9 million to improve Camp Perry huts after Hurricane Sandy damage

Construction will begin at the end of June and plans for completion by December.

Facilities at Camp Perry damaged from Hurricane Sandy will get an upgrade after U.S. Rep. Marcy Kaptur announced funding to repair them Thursday afternoon.

$2.9 million will go towards replacing World War II sets built in the 1940s. Kaptur said the storm damage destroyed them beyond repair.

Construction for the Ottawa County facility will begin at the end of June and plans to be completed by December before the 2014 National Matches.

â??Camp Perry is an important facility in our overall readiness strategy and I am pleased to announce that this long-awaited project is now a reality,â?? Kaptur said.

The 25,600-square-foot building will also have improvements to its current storm drainage and sidewalks.
