Saturday, September 21, was the first time there was a homecoming prom dress sale held at Owens Community College Toledo-area campus to raise funds and raise awareness.
391 dresses were for sale at greatly reduced prices. The organizer of the sale, Adren Burkes said, "some of these dresses we have are $200. We just want to make sure that everyone has a good experience." Dresses were reduced to prices that ranged from $5 to $25. Along with dresses, shoes and make up were also available.
There was information offered at the sale on topics such as suicide prevention, self-esteem and bullying. Burkes said that with the increase of internet usage among teens, bullying is an important issue, especially with the many ways in which teens are cyber-bullied.
"(The dress sale is) good for the school, because we are getting high school age students who are going to college soon, and making them aware of our school and the different things we do on campus," Burkes said.
All proceeds will be put towards future events at Owens Community College and food pantry.
