Accident involving trooper reminds drivers not to drive distracted
BOWLING GREEN, OH (WNWO) - An Ohio State Highway Patrol Trooper was involved in an accident at 6:15 Wednesday
Trooper Philip Mohre was parked in the median of I-75 near Bowling Green in Wood County. A car heading southbound, driven by James Tounage of Detroit, became distracted behind the wheel and lost control. The driver swerved left into the median and hit the trooper's car before coming to rest in a ditch.
Trooper Mohre and Mr. Tounage, along with a passenger in his car, were transported to Wood County hospital with minor injuries. All are expected to be okay, but officers want to use this opportunity to remind people to use caution when passing other cars.
"So regardless who's over there, especially with law enforcement, make sure your paying attention," explained Lt. Shaun Robinson with the Toledo Post. "If you are unable to move over, you do need slow down and pay attention as you're passing those vehicles that are on the side of the road."
All parties were wearing their seatbelts. Mr. Tounage was cited for failure to conrtrol.
