Additional open container areas launch in downtown Toledo
Toledo, Ohio (WNWO)-- Happy hour is expanding in Toledo with the launch of the second Downtown Outdoor Refreshment Area or DORA.
DORA allows alcoholic drinks to be carried outdoors in the official DORA cup from noon to midnight. The beverages can only be consumed within the set boundaries: Lafayette, Erie, Adams and Summit streets.
The cups also must be finished outside before heading into an establishment and can't be carried from one business to another.
In addition, if you want another drink you must buy a new cup from 1 of the 24 participating locations. An outside beverage cannot eb brought in and simply poured into a DORA cup.
The new area launch kicked off Thursday in a press conference, spearheaded by many Toledo organizations including the downtown Toledo improvement District, the Toledo Regional Chamber of Commerce, and Destination Toledo.
Participants expect it to bring a new crowd, while remaining fun for those who've lived in Toledo for a long time like Cock N' Bull Owner Jim Mettler. "You do things to help keep young professionals here,"said Mettler. " You give them an environment they'll enjoy and also the people that have stayed here for years, the old farts like me, will enjoy as well." MEttler syas that's the key to keeping young people in Toledo.
