Administrative layoffs expected in Tecumseh Schools

In the midst of millions of dollars in state budget cuts, one local school is cutting administrators before cutting teachers.

Tecumseh Public Schools may lay off four administrators.

According to the Daily Telegram, the Tecumseh School Board approved possible layoffs for the Athletic Director Casey Randolph, High School Principal Griff Mills, Middle School Assistant Principal Greg Lewis and Herrick Park Elementary Principal Robyn Francis. The layoffs would take effect if the proposed cuts in state funding are approved.

The district is looking at the possible loss of $3.9 million. The cut in state funding, along with declining enrollment and anticipated increases in health care costs and the retirement fund, will result in a $2.5 million hit on the school district TMs budget. The other $1.4 million loss of revenue was anticipated with the end of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.
