Adrian student suspended for allegedly creating a hitlist

The sixth grade student was suspended indefinitely.

An Adrian Middle School student is under investigation for allegedly writing a letter that lists "People I'm going to kill."

A custodian working at Adrian Middle School discoverd the letter Oct. 24 and reported it to school administrators. The letter listed nine other students' names, according to investigators.

Adrian Police along with school administrators, identified the handwriting of a sixth grade student to match the handwriting in the letter.

Officials said the father and the student were brought into questioning, where the student admitted to writing the note, but said she didn't mean to "really mean 'kill them.' "

The student had been "annoyed," by the people on the list for "repeatedly saying words improperly," according to Adrian Police.

The sixth grade student was suspended indefinitely.

Lenawee County Prosecutor R. Burke Castleberry was contacted to review for any potential criminal violation and prosecution.

Officials will not release the identities of the student and those listed in the letter as they are juveniles.
