On the eve of the third anniversary of the disappearance of 5-year-old Nevaeh Buchanan, new hope her killer could soon be brought to justice.
Nevaeh was kidnapped from the Charlotte Arms Apartment Complex in Monroe on May 24, 2009.
Hundreds of residents from neighboring communities searched day and night for her but their fears were realized on June 4, 2009. That's when a group of fishermen found her body in a concrete grave along the River Raisin. She had been buried alive.
Now as Nevaeh's family and friends get ready to mark the somber anniversary, word Wednesday from the Monroe County Sheriff that investigators are closer to arresting a suspect.
Sheriff Tilman Crutchfield tells the Monroe Evening News that the focus of the investigation has narrowed. Crutchfield told the paper the community is not in danger from the person or persons he believes may be involved in Nevaeh's kidnapping and murder.
