The Monroe County Sheriff's Office arrested a Newport man, on Monday, for allegedly trying to kill someone and trying to run from police.
Around 2:30 a.m., Monroe County Deputy Sheriff's deputies responded to a home on the 8400 block of Gidget Court in Newport for a stabbing.
When officers arrived at the scene they found a male victim on the front porch suffering from a single stab wound.
The 25-year-old victim was transported to Mercy Memorial Hospital for treatment.
Authorities believe that before the stabbing the victim, he and the suspect were involved in a fight.
After the stabbing, the suspect then allegedly fled the scene.
Soon after a deputy located the suspect and started a pursuit of the suspect's vehicle.
The chase lasted several miles, going south on I-75 and north on N. Dixie Highway as well as through several residential neighborhoods.
Eventually officials were able to stop the suspect in the area of Swan Creek Road and Newport South Road using stop sticks.
