Aurora Project clears properties for new community garden

Crews demolished old Elm Street homes on Friday to make way for a community garden.

Teardown started at 8 a.m. for the Aurora Project, a housing and life skills program to help homeless women and their children. The nonprofit will utilize this space to develop a community garden and greenspace.

"Not that we're excited about the fact that the properties are coming down, but the fact that we are going to repurpose the properties," Executive Director Denise Fox said. "So that will create green space not just for Aurora but for our neighborhood and of course improve the community as a whole."

The goal is to have the project and garden finished by spring 2018.
