Authorities say they're working to confirm the identity of a person found on the basement of a Monroe County home following a fire.
The blaze Wednesday afternoon destroyed the home in London Township, near Milan and about 35 miles southwest of Detroit.
State police and the county medical examiner's office said Thursday they didn't yet have autopsy results to confirm the victim's identity and cause of death.
Family members and friends at the scene tell
The Monroe Evening News
they believe the victim was 39-year-old Terry Courtney. She owned and lived in the house.
Detective Sgt. Marc Moore says it's believed the victim was on the first floor of the home, but the home collapsed into the basement during the fire.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
