More than $150,000 in damages later, Toledo fire authorities are investigating the source of a debris pile fire in North Toledo on Thursday. Authorities said Friday that the fire was ruled unintentional yet the cause is unknown.
Firefighters responded to a report of the fire at OmniSource at 2:40 p.m. The Toledo Blade reports that by 10 p.m., work crews "were using a crane to pull apart the debris pile so firefighters could douse hot spots." The fire was contained by 11:30 p.m., but one firefighter was transported to Mercy St. Vincet Medical Center for injuries.
The N. Detroit Ave. is a scrap metal collection site for OmniSource who is a scrap metal recycler with multiple sites in Ohio, Michigan, and Indiana.
