Bedford High School football player dies from injuries sustained in car crash

The Bedford High School community is mourning the loss of one of its varsity football players Thursday.

Colton Durbin, 17, was taken off life support one day after being involved in a traffic crash in Bedford Township Wednesday morning. The Bedford Mules varsity football player was driving along Samaria Road when his vehicle rear-ended a garbage truck stopped in the road. Durbin was transported to a Toledo hospital where he underwent a number of surgeries to repair internal damage caused by the crash.

On Thursday morning, Durbin was taken off life support after a a period of having no brain activity.

The community has taken to Facebook to mourn their loss. "We love this kid with all our hearts and are so sorry for his family and friends during this devestating (sic) time," wrote an administrator of the Bedford Football Moms page.

All Bedford district events scheduled for Thursday have been cancelled. The community plans to gather for a vigil at 7 p.m. at Bedford's football stadium.

Whitmer High School has planned a "Red Out" for its Panthers football game Friday night.
