Benefit held for couple injured in car accident

The road to recovery for a couple injured in a devastating car crash led to a fund-raiser for their benefit on Sunday.

Chris and Lauren Blairâ??s truck veered off the road, hit a utility pole, and ejected Chris from the vehicle. Lauren escaped with non-life threatening injuries, but Chris was paralyzed from the waist down.

27-year-old Chris was between jobs as a union laborer at the time of the accident and was uninsured. The medical bills are piling up and the community stepped in to help.

Hundreds of supporters came out to the benefit at Laurenâ??s aunt and uncleâ??s home in Tiffin. Some were neighbors that did not even know the family. WNWOâ??s Chief Meteorologist Norm Van Ness emceed the event, which featured live bands, food and drinks, activities for kids, and over a hundred items up for bid at auction.

About two months after the crash, Chris says most of his bones have healed and he is free of infections. He hopes to permanently return home soon from rehab.

All of the proceeds from the benefit will go towards helping the family. You can make donations to an account set up for the Blairs at Fremont Federal Credit Union.
