Faculty at Bowling Green State University have voted in favor of union representation after weeks of voting.
Preliminary results show a majority of faculty members (391) cast ballots in favor of joining the American Association of University Professors, while 293 voted against the unionization.
BGSU President Carol Cartwright and Vice President Kenneth Borland issued a statement Wednesday voicing their displeasure with the decision to unionize. "While we would have preferred a different outcome, we respect the process and its result," the statement read. "We must all now commit to continuing the sound stewardship of the University in these difficult economic times. We have a responsibility to negotiate a contract that is in the best interest of Bowling Green State University."
More than 680 out of 800 eligible full-time faculy members cast a vote.
