Bob Evans closing Toledo location, 26 other stores
TOLEDO, Oh. (WNWO) -- Bob Evans has announced it has closed nearly two dozen restaurants for under-performance, and more are expected to come.
The restaurant chain says 21 owned stores closed over the weekend, including the restaurant 3025 Glendale Avenue in Toledo.
Six leased stores will close in 2017.
The closures come after a comprehensive unit-level performance review of the Company's restaurant portfolio led to pinpointing the under-performing locations. "Decisions to close restaurant locations are always difficult," said President and Chief Executive Officer Saed Mohseni. "Performance at each of these locations, despite the loyalty of valued guests and the efforts of our dedicated employees, was not meeting expectations."
The company says 1,100 workers will be laid off with many being offered positions at nearby restaurants. All other full-time and part-time employees will receive severance benefits.
Bob Evans expects to make $20 million from the sale of the closed locations.
