The Monroe County Sheriff's Office recovered a body from Lake Erie Saturday afternoon. Around 2:30 p.m. the Monroe County Central Dispatch received a call that a body was floating in Lake Erie near the shoreline of the 7600 block of Lakeshore Drive in Estral Beach, Michigan. The body of a man was located approximately 50 yards off shore.
Police believe the recovered male is the missing 36-year-old man from Waterford, MI who was reported missing Wednesday night. On Wednesday evening a woman called 911 to report that her boyfriend and 8-year-old son were in the water off of Estral Beach and had become separated from their unanchored boat. The man went into the water to rescue the boy. A nearby boater was able to help the child to safety but the adult male could not be located. Police are withholding the man's name until relatives are notified and a positive identification is made.
