Bowling Green police warn businesses of classic scam

Police in Bowling Green say a local business could have been the victim of a classic scam, and are now warning others to heed warnings.

Police in Bowling Green say a local business could have been the victim of a classic scam, and are now warning others to heed warnings.

The Bowling Green Police Division said they received a complaint from an area business saying they had been receiving numerous calls claiming to be Microsoft or Windows tech support. The callers said they needed access to the store's computers in order to resolve malware or malfunctioning issues. They were persistent and would call back repeatedly, according to police, making this a classic example of a scam.

The callers were said to have Indian accents and, though the calls could have been from anywhere, the area codes were from New York and Sacramento, Calif.

BGPD reminds residents to not accept anyone's unsolicited attempts to gain access to computer systems or personal information. Any such attempts should be treated as a scam.
