Cadaver dog sent to neighborhood where missing toddler was last seen

The Geauga County Sheriff's Office tells WNWO that they sent a cadaver dog to Toledo, on Wednesday night, to help authorities with an active investigation.

An emergency dispatcher says the dog was sent to Toledo just before 5 pm.

The dog was seen searching two homes on Federal Street during the evening hours.

Toledo Police and the FBI were also seen searching an abandoned home in the 600 block of Federal Street and the home where 18-month-old Elaina Steinfurth was last seen, in the 700 block of Federal.

Witnesses at the scene also reported seeing the cadaver dog search a vehicle near one of the homes searched.

That vehicle was towed away from the scene and then shortly after 9:30 p.m. authorities also left Federal Street.

It is unclear if the vehicle was taken away to be processed at another location, if at all, or if any other items where taken from the two homes searched.

The latest searches come just hours after authorities posted a $10,000 reward for information that leads officials to Elaina, who was last seen June 2nd.

Elaina's father reported her missing after going to the home where Elaina's mother, Angela Steinfurth, was staying.

After unsuccessfully picking up Elaina, during his first attempt on June 2nd, Elaina's father returned to the home and learned that the child was missing.

Elaina's mother and father are separated and Elaina's mother was staying at the Federal Street home occupied by the Angela Steinfurth's ex-boyfriend.

On Wednesday night, the case also gained nationwide attention when it was featured during an episode of "Nancy Grace" on the HLN network.

The former prosecutor spoke to a representative from Toledo Police who revealed that the search for Elaina had not been suspended over the weekend and continued whenever officers were not on other calls.

During an interview with Elaina's paternal grandfather it was also revealed that while Elaina is able to walk on her own, he believed it was unlikely that she could escape the home unnoticed.

Toledo Police insisted, however, that all family members in the case have been cooperative during their investigation.

Grace did tell her viewers that repeated calls to Elaina's mother for an interview were not returned.
