Wed, 01 Aug 2012 23:52:13 GMT — Monroe County officials are investigating a serious injury accident involving a passenger car vs a fire truck. The accident occurred Wednesday at 12:26pm on Lewis Avenue at Hickory Creek Blvd. in Bedford Township. Driver Bruce E. Wyllis, age 63, of Maybee Michigan was driving a 2005 Ford Focus heading westbound on Hickory Creek Blvd and stopped at a stop sign at Lewis Ave. Wyllis then attempted to cross Lewis Ave. when struck by a Bedford Twp. Fire Department Rescue truck in route to a structure fire. Official reports say the fire truck was not the primary unit responding to the fire, therefore it did not have its emergency lights activated. Wyllis was transported to Toledo Hospital and is listed in critical condition. Four firemen were treated and released with only minor injuries from Toledo Hospital and St. Vincentâ??s Medical Center. The Monroe County Sheriff states that alcohol may have been a factor. The crash remains under investigation.
