Toledo Police say they have arrested the man seen in surveillance video attacking and robbing a woman at a North Toledo carryout.

The incident occurred late Thursday night at the Stop & Go at 3504 Lagrange and Manhattan Blvd. According to police, Donald Atwell, 34, entered the store around the same time as the victim, Laguell Pettis, who came in to cash a check. After receiving her money, Pettis stuffed the cash into her bra and exited the store.

She was followed out into the parking lot by Atwell, who then immediately grabbed her and pulled her to the ground. He proceeding to violently attack her until he was able to pull the money from inside her shirt. He then fled down Manhattan on a bicycle. Pettis suffered minor injuries.

Atwell, whose last known address is 345 E. Oakland, was arrested around 12:20 a.m. Tuesday at 1122 E. Bancroft St. Officers first searched the home on Monday and then again early Tuesday morning, after being let in by Dawn Atwell, 33. They say she stalled officers both times before allowing them to search the home, telling them that the suspect was not inside.

The suspect was eventually located in a crawl space beneath the E. Bancroft St. residence. According to police, Atwell repeatedly refused to crawl out from underneath the porch, so officers were forced to spray mace in the space. He was arraigned on charges robbery, resisting arrest and obstructing official business in Toledo Municipal Court Tuesday morning. He is being held in the Lucas County Jail.
