Cedar Point to 'squash' Mantis ride

SANDUSKY, Ohio -- Cedar Point will soon say goodbye to its popular thrill ride Mantis.

The amusement park made the announcement via their YouTube channel on Tuesday saying, "Goodbyes are never easy."

â??Itâ??s time to say goodbye to one of the parkâ??s coasters, and itâ??s certainly been a different kind of ride for our guests,â?? said Jason McClure, vice president and general manager of Cedar Point. â??But weâ??re extremely excited about what the future holds here at the Roller Coaster Capital of the Worldâ?¢.â??

According to park officials, Mantis was billed as the tallest, fastest and steepest stand-up roller coaster in the world when it opened in 1996.

Mantis is set to be permanently closed on October 19.
