S ome major changes could be coming to a West Toledo neighborhood.
A one time neighborhood meeting was held Thursday night to discuss what the move could mean to residents. Hope Learning Academy wants to move their charter school inside the Hampton Park Christian Church.
T he building located on Monroe Street and Rushland Avenue has been in the community since 1950. However, the church's congregation has evaporated and out of their current 120 members, only about 50 are active. That means their finances are strained and selling the church and leasing it back is the only option for survival according to church leaders.
T he school needs a special use permit which the city will look at in a couple of weeks. I f the school gets the green light to move into the building , under the deal , half of the building will be used to educate up to 80 special needs children. The other half of the building will be leased back to the church to use for worship.
L eaders with Hope Learning Academy want to have the building ready for students for the fall semester.
