Donna Adeler expressed satisfaction that the Diocese of Toledo has a new bishop. "So happy to hear that we have a new Bishop, we've been expecting that and we are really glad," Ms. Adeler said.
At a morning news conference at diocesan headquarters in downtown Toledo the Most Reverend Daniel E. Thomas was presented as the eight Bishop of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Toledo. Bishop Thomas has been serving as an Auxiliary Bishop of the Archdiocese of Philadelphia. "Every Bishop knows that in a sense he is a missionary, so the Holy Father can call on us at any time to do anything and go anyplace and he has chosen me to come to this place which is a great gift," Bishop Thomas said.
Bishop Thomas succeeds Bishop Leonard Blair who last December was appointed archbishop of the Hartford, CT archdiocese. Bishop Thomas was born and raised in Philadelphia, attending Catholic elementary and high schools. He attended Saint Charles Borromeo Seminary in Wynnewood, PA where he earned both a Bachelor and Master of Arts degree. He also earned a licentiate in sacred theology(S.T.L.) in 1989 from the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome, Italy.
Bishop Thomas will be installed as Bishop of Toledo at a Mass to be celebrated October 22 at 2 p.m. at Holy Rosary Cathedral on Collingwood Blvd.
