Coast guard searches for missing fishing boat

The Detroit Coast Guard and several police departments are searching land and water for a fishing boat reported missing early Thursday morning.

Officials told WNWO they received a report of a missing 21-foot bass fishing boat with three people on board. The group had been fishing near Rattlesnake Island near Put-in-Bay Wednesday evening.

Officials were told the group did not return home last night. Crews have been searching since 2 a.m.

The latest GPS location tracked the boat at 7 p.m., about five miles from Locust Point, where the group originally launched Wednesday evening.

A Detroit Coast Guard helicopter has been sent to the perimeter. Other police departments have been searching on land.

WNWO will bring you the latest details as they become available.
