Congresswoman Marcy Kaptur introduces new urban agriculture bill
Toledo, Ohio (WNWO)-- A new bill unveiled today could be a step forward for urban agriculture in the area.
In a press conference Congresswoman Marcy Kaptur introduced bill 3699, the urban agriculture production act.
The bill would help provide more opportunities and funding for urban farmers such as outreach programs , coupons and grants.
The idea is to make food more accessible in communities with food deserts, or areas lacking fresh food.
" It's taken a lot of work and a lot of experimentation and a lot of study I recognize that the urban parks of America, the metropolitan areas have really been short changed," said Kaptur.
The bill is expected to be voted on by next year.
