Council approves raises for 800 city of Toledo workers

Hundreds of city of Toledo employees are about to get a pay raise.
Toledo City Council voted 11-to-1 Tuesday to approve a measure that will give about 800 members of AFSCME Local 7 a 2.5-percent pay raise.
The wage increase will be retroactive to Jan. 1, 2014 and will provide bigger paychecks for bus drivers, snow drivers, and public utilities workers, all members of the union.
Toledo Mayor D. Michael Collins said the increased wages will not break the city's bank, and will not come directly from the city's general fund.
