Hopes of saving a historic northwest Ohio courthouse came crashing down Wednesday.

Demolition crews have begun breaking up the concrete steps on the 125-year-old Seneca County Courthouse.

The Toledo Blade reports that B&B Wrecking and Excavating of Cleveland were hired by county commissioners to demolish the historic courthouse for $373,000.

Officials who supported demolishing the building did so while claiming the county does not have enough money to appropriately renovate it.
