Documentary screening by catholic church calls for immigration reform

Sanger Public Library is showing the documentary Tuesday at 7 p.m.

U.S. Catholic Bishops will show its documentary on immigration in Toledo library July 23.

Residents can watch the documentary called, "Strangers No Longer, " at Sanger Branch Library on Tuesday, July 23 at 7 p.m., with discussion following. The event is free and open to the public.

The film invites the public to open our hearts and minds and identify with today's immigrants. Fr. Dan Groody of the University of Notre Dame will speak in the film who live in Latin America and on the U.S. border.

Holy Spirit Catholic Community, an inclusive Vatican II eucharistic community in Toledo, sponsored the event.

Holy Spirit Catholic Community views the American catholic church as an immigrant church.The U.S. Bishops endorsed immigration reform in the 2001 and few years later, advocated a comprehensive set of recommendations for changing U.S. laws and policies to bring about a more humane and just immigration system in the United States.
