The dog shot in East Toledo is recovering after having her leg amputated Friday. Doctors say the surgery went well and was uncomplicated.
Lucas County Canine Care and Control officials have named the dog June Cash. She will spend the weekend at the animal hospital before Planned Pethood picks her up Monday and places her in foster care.
June is a stray dog that was shot in broad daylight on the 900 block of Clark St. Monday. Police are searching for their suspect, 26-year old Marcus Crawford.
The bullet shattered the dogâ??s leg, but the doctors who operated on the dog Friday say it could have been worse.
â??If she would have been shot any further over than where she was, thereâ??s a good chance it would have hit her heart,â?? Dr. Brooke West said.
Juneâ??s surgery will be paid for by the Lucas County Canine Care and Control Cuties Fund. Donations can be made to help similar animals in need online.
