A Toledo man is dead and a Northwood couple was seriously injured in a 2-vehicle crash near Genoa on Friday afternoon.
The Sandusky Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol (OSHP) says it started with Russell Warnke, of Northwood, suffering an undisclosed medical problem while behind the wheel in Clay Township .
Around 1 p.m., the 54-year-old was traveling along State Route 51 north of State Route 163 when the medical problem caused him to drive left of center.
Warnkeâ??s Ford F-150 pick-up truck then drove head-on into 32-year-old Jacob Thompson's Chevrolet Cavalier.
Thompson, of Toledo, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Warnke suffered "incapacitating injuries" and was taken by Life Flight to a Toledo hospital, according to a OSHP press release.
His wife, 53-year-old Wanda Warnke, was also traveling in the truck and suffered serious injuries.
She was transported to St. Vincent Hospital by ambulance.
Officials say that alcohol was not a factor in the crash but pointed out that none of the three victims were wearing their seatbelts.
As of 7 p.m., on Friday, no citations had been issued.
