East Toledo man in critical condition after hit-and-run
Toledo, Ohio (WNWO)- Allen Jeremy is a familiar face for many residents.
"My brother is also known as east side Al. A lot of people know him he has his own website," said Allen's sister Susan Jeremy.
While many are used to seeing Allen dance or hold signs, in the wee hours of the morning on Sunday, his moves were halted.
"Last night a guy was walking across the street and I heard a big explosion and I guess the car hit him,"said Gale Lacey who claims he witnessed the accident.
On Sunday morning around four a.m., Toledo Police say the 56 year old was walking in the street when he was hit by a car. The crash happened near the corner of Front and Main Street near Platt in East Toledo.Police say Jeremy flew several feet and landed outside of Central Hot Dogs restaurant . He was then rushed to St. Vincent hospital and treated for a broken right leg and several other injuries.
"He had exploratory surgery, they removed his spleen, he's got a broken leg, broken bones in the back," said Jeremy. While she says she understands the driver's intention may not have been to hit her brother, she's asking for whoever committed the crime to come forward.
"I just hope whoever does it just comes around and does the right thing," said Jeremy.
Police are looking for a possible red or maroon Chevy Impala. They say that it might have some damage to the windshield from the impact on the driver's side.
