Elderly Milan woman killed when brush fire burns out of control
Thu, 02 May 2013 03:16:45 GMT — The Monroe County Sheriff's office is investigating a fire that killed a Milan woman on Wednesday afternoon. Around 3 p.m., firefighters were dispatched to field fire in the area of Darling Road near Tuttlehill Road. When crews arrived, they found a wooded area fully engulfed in flames and soon after discovered the body of a woman. An investigation determined that 76-year-old Anna Eliva Pinto had been working in the wooded area burning brush in several small brush piles. Officials believe that due to windy conditions, the fires grew out of control and when Pinto tried to escape she was overcome by smoke and flames. Pinto's death remains under investigation by Deputy Tony Modica of the Uniformed Services Division and Detective Joseph Hammond. Anyone with additional information is asked to call the Monroe County Sheriff's Office Detective Bureau at 734-240-7530.
