Residents in Lucas County will soon be using electronic poll books to check their eligibility.

550 units were brought in on Tuesday to replace the thick printed signature books.

All voters need to do is swipe their driver’s license and vote.

“Their primary source is for when the voters actually come to check in instead of the poll workers having to flip through the paper books to find the voter. They can access the voters record electronically,” says LaVera Scott, Director of the Lucas County Board of Elections. “ The voters can bring in a driver’s license that it can scan that will directly link them to the voter registration system.”

The county hopes the units will reduce human error.

Both paper and electronic polls will be used in next week's election with the paper as backup measure.
