An Elmore police officer has been charged with menacing after making a threatening statement on his Facebook page.
Shaun Harder, 23, of Elmore, was charged with one misdemeanor count of aggravated menacing in Ottawa County Municipal Court. Authorities say the police officer and humane society volunteer made threats against an Arabian horse rescue group on the social-networking site, Facebook.
The Arabian Rescue Mission received several severally malnourished horses on Feb. 3 after they were signed over by their previous owner, Robin Ness of Oak Harbor. The mission worked in conjunction with the Humane Society of Ottawa County to send the horses to foster homes across the state.
According to the Ottawa County Sheriff's Office, Harder wrote on his Facebook page, "The Arabian rescue group needs to be slaughtered like livestock."
Harder pleaded not guilty to the aggravated menacing charge in court on Monday.
Elmore Police say Harder has been on unpaid administrative leave since Dec. 2009 for another, unrelated investigation.
