Friends and family of a teen killed during a driving lesson on Monday held a vigil in his honor.

The vigil was held at Memorial Park in Swanton. People lit candles and shared their memories of Joe.

Friends and family describe the teen as a happy and funny, young man.

On Monday, Ohio State Highway Patrol troopers said Franks failed to stop at an intersection in Whitehouse and was hit by a minivan. The 16-year-old and the driving school instructor, Thomas Smith, were killed.

Joe Franks funeral will be held Saturday from 3 to 5 p.m. at Weigle Funeral Home in Swanton.

Contributions can be made at any Huntington Bank or Fifth Third Bank in the name of Carey Smart.
