Family, friends remember Fostoria murder victim

Fostoria residents gathered around the house where a 20-year-old woman was murdered Thursday to celebrate her life.

Janelle Mauricio was shot in her home and later died at the hospital. Her boyfriend, Caleb Barto, was assaulted but lived.

Janelleâ??s father, Freddy Mauricio Jr., says theyâ??ve recently had other deaths in the family.

â??Losing a father is bad too, but when you lose a child, itâ??s worse,â?? Mauricio said, fighting back tears.

Police identified 17-year-old Garret Brown as a suspect. Heâ??s now behind bars and will be charged with Aggravated Murder. So will 18-year-old Tyson Ogg, also arrested.

â??These kids that did this, they were supposed to be friends,â?? Mauricio said. â??They were all friends. So, I donâ??t get it.â??

Janelle lived in the house with her boyfriend. His family, the Bartos, joined the Mauricios to remember Janelle. Both families say she was loving and family oriented.

â??I was shocked,â?? Caleb Bartosâ?? little sister Raven Rodgers said, â??Janelle was like an older sister to me. She was always there for us.â??

The Mauricios say theyâ??re happy the suspects have been caught because they donâ??t want anyone else to get hurt.

Freddy Mauricio says the support of family and friends is helping him through this tough time.
