Final weekend push for 9th District Congressional Democratic nomination

Marcy Kaptur goes door to door in Point Place.

TOLEDO - Before voters could cast their ballot for the 9th District Democratic candidate, Marcy Kaptur, Dennis Kucinich, and Graham Veysey were out in Northwest Ohio to gain momentum on Saturday.

Scott High School started the day with an appearance by Kucinich. He was also joined by music mogul Russell Simmons who was there to show his endorsement for the hopeful representative. Simmons has been a supporter of Kucinich for years and claims that the candidate is highly needed in Congress.

"Dennis, in my opinion, is the most important Congressman we have in this country," Simmons said. "He's a person who stood up for under-served communities for his whole career."

Next, Kaptur was in Point Place going door to door and alerting residents that their vote was needed on Tuesday in order to get her on the ballot in November. Earlier in the week she was endorsed by actor Tom Hanks (from Lakewood, OH) and singer/songwriter Crystal Bowersox.

"We are opposed by two gentlemen who don't live in this region and I've represented four out of the five counties now in the district," Kaptur said.

Finally, Veysey stood in front of the USPS facility on S. St. Clair in downtown Toledo and talked about the 350 jobs lost by closing the building. Though he didn't have a backing by anyone famous recently, he did have a message for his opponents.

"As my two opponents continue to talk about what Hip Hop mogul or Hollywood star supporting their campaign, we're talking about the fact that 350 jobs are being lost at this facility," Veysey said. "Which shows that no matter which seniority or what committee you're in, we face a fiscal crisis."

Tuesday, March 6th, is the Democratic Primary and polls are open from 6:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.
