      Fire reported at OmniSource scrap metal plant

      According to an OmniSource employee, the fire started inside a machine at the plant.

      Update, 8:15 a.m.:

      Hill Avenue has reopened following a fire at OmniSource scrap metal plant on Thursday morning.

      The fire broke out before 6 a.m. in a machine at the plant. An OmniSource employee told our reporter that a mixture inside the machine overheated and started the fire, but the official cause has not been released by the Toledo Fire Department.

      Fire crews are at the scene of a fire at OmniSource Corporation scrap metal plant on Hill Avenue early Thursday.

      Hill Avenue is closed between Westwood Avenue and Parkside Boulevard in both directions while crews finish at the scene. Drivers can detour by taking Westwood to Nebraska Avenue.

      An OmniSource employee told our reporter the fire started when a mixture inside a machine overheated. There are no flames coming out of the plant.

      OmniSource is a processor and distributor of scrap and secondary metals. The company collects, processes and resells a wide variety of scrap metal.
