Flesh-eating bacteria takes Mich. woman's life

Crystal Spencer, 33, died after a month-long fight against a flesh-eating bacteria.

After a month-long fight for her life, a 33-year-old Detroit area woman lost her battle with flesh-eating bacteria on Monday.

According to WDIV, Crystal Spencer of Farmington Hills, Mich., contracted the bacteria following a procedure to have a boil removed at a Detroit hospital.

Her death came after days of seeming recovery. Her husband, Jeff Spencer, told WDIV she was getting ready to move to a rehabilitation center.

"I left her at 1:15 yesterday and she was all happy and everything,â?? he said. â??And then she was getting ready to go for a CAT scan and she had trouble breathing."

Jeff believes his wife contracted the virus at the hospital where she received surgery. It's unclear if Crystal died from the infection or from complications from her Type 2 diabetes.
