Toledo resident Brad Higgs will complete a remarkable journey when he graduates from Owens Community College with a degree in criminal justice. The 35-year-old was once homeless and spent time in prison. But he now has the distinction of being the first person in his family with a college degree. "This is awesome; I never could have imagined that this could happen and I think God for this opportunity," Mr. Higgs said.
Brad's 13-year-old daugter Alasha will be in the crowd on Friday night cheering for her dad. "I know that his childhood wasn't the best but for him to succeed the way he has he is my role model for that," Alasha said.
Brad is among the 740 students receiving diplomas at Owens Community College's spring commencement taking place Friday night.
